I’m so excited that it’s time for the 2nd writing challenge I’m participating in this year.
In honor of Dr. Seuss and his many contributions to children’s literature, Vivian Kirkfield challenges kidlit writers to create children’s stories using 50 words or less.
Here’s the first #50PRECIOUSWORDS story I’ve done. It’s a re-write of a short piece I wrote for a contest years ago. It’s stronger than it was before so I’m proud of that. Hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think!
LITTLE BAT’S FIRST FLIGHT
Spread your velvety wings for take-off.
Away we gooooo!
It’s time for your first hunt.
Tonight’s the best night for treats.
Rest well, Little One.
Our fun has made you sleepy.
This sacred eve is over.
Dawn is breaking.
Another Halloween has come and gone.

It’s amazing how much story we can tell with so few words, isn’t it? Nice job.
It’s so much harder than I thought it would be. I wrote so many more but they had 65 to 75 words. Thanks for reading my story!
Hello Maria…so happy you joined in the #50PreciousWords fun. I love your sound words…and all the action and motion of your story. Well done!
Well done. Good luck!
Thanks so much! That was harder than I thought it would be.
I agree with that. =)
So well done. This word count is as difficult as a haiku in poetry. You even made a bat lovable!
