Greetings everyone! I have some exciting news to share.
In early March, a good friend submitted my application for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Educator of the Year award. I was thrilled just to be nominated.
A few days later, just before the COVID-19 quarintine, I found out that I had been chosen as this year’s recipient. I spoke with Meredith Hawes from the NFPA in the middle of an elementary school hallway. When she broke the news, I completely broke down and cried.
While I am tremendously sad that the 2020 NFPA Conference & Expo in Orlando has been cancelled for this year, I’m thrilled to be going to 2021 COnference & Expo in Los Vegas!
If you’d like to learn more about this great honor, feel free to head over to the NFPA blog for more information.
This award truly is the highlight of my career in public safety education/community risk reduction.
Congratulations, Maria! You work tirelessly and creatively, and it’s wonderful you’ve been recognized.
Thank you so very much, Ms. Jetta. It truly is an honor.
