I’ve managed to shock the majority of my family and friends. Unbeknownst to them, I’ve been scribbling, doodling, and writing for a number of years now. Too afraid of receiving more rejection letters (Yes, I know that even the best writers have received many a rejection letter…), I simply kept my secret passion hidden so that no one would know.
Last fall, after some gentle pushing and prodding from a group of practical strangers (funny how I could open up to them about my fear of rejection), I got busy. I got serious. I got real.
What did I start doing differently?
I went back to writing. I quit focusing on my original manuscripts (which still have my heart and soul). I wrote new things. I wrote different things. I thought about writing. I read about writing. I dreamed about writing. I set goals. I made plans.
2014 – a new year and a time for great things. With the new year, I made New Year’s resolutions that I intended to keep. I told my husband that this was going to be the year that was going to “make it or break it!” Boy, was I right.
So much has happened in a few months. I’ve gone from doodling poems on a notepad to signing a contract and editing a manuscript. In September, I plan to debut my first children’s safety book about playing with matches and lighters (just in time for Fire Prevention Week). I’m thrilled. I’m excited. I’m scared. I’m apprehensive. I’m a mixed bag of emotions, but despite them all – I’M READY!
Now that my secret is out, many ask where I find my inspiration. Hum… that is probably a story for another day!
I’m new at this craft and I have much to learn. Join me on this journey! What’s in your heart? What’s your passion? Writing, painting, baking, crafting??? Let’s follow our dreams together.
2014 is going to be a time for great things… for me – and for you, too!
I found you! 🙂
Joining you in your happy dance, Maria. Congratulations!! What an exciting road ahead for you…as if it wasn’t exciting enough, right? lol
